Aarburg, Switzerland
2017-2020
This project assessed the development of a sensitive area of around 63’000 m2 near the city of Aarburg, Switzerland. A large international industrial manufacturer wished to develop land close to their factory. Strict zoning legislation required meticulous argumentation to achieve the necessary building permissions. Over the course of three years data was collected to compile a toolset for the design of competing urban design scenarios. The large piece of land was partially historically protected on a national level, both for the extraordinary quality of the historic landscape design as well as for listed historic buildings.
The resulting report facilitated multiple rounds of expert workshops to discuss and negotiate the possibilities and limitations between the stakeholder. Urban design experts, investors and the municipal community were enabled to enact the necessary zoning adjustment.
